Director of Financial Operations - NYC
Innovative and rapidly growing Billion$ company in NYC has an opening for a Director of Financial Operations reporting to the Senior Vice President & Controller (and Chief Accounting Officer). In this role the DFO will be responsible for a wide variety of tasks associated with the accounting and internal control environments for the processing of high volume, low dollar value transactions, including management of the following principle areas (Accounts Payable, Inventory, Fixed Assets, and Payroll). The responsibilities will also include identifying process and systems' improvements and/or enhancements. This position will have significant interfaces for Sarbanes-Oxley compliance as well as working closely with the Internal and External Auditors.
Roles and Responsibilities:
- Sarbanes-Oxley compliance including developing, establishing, implementing documenting, and maintaining requisite controls and procedures to support the financial system and operational processes.
- Schedule and assure timely completion of the transactions and analyses for the monthly, quarterly, and year-end financial closings.
- Ensure that account activity and balances are reviewed for accuracy and reasonableness and reconciled monthly.
- Develop and implement procedures for streamlining the accrual process including support needed to properly complete a review and audit.
- Maintain a key support role with the Internal and External Auditors.
- Interact with other various levels of management on significant matters which often requires coordination between various functional groups within the organization.
- Management of certain aspects of the General Ledger.
- Supervision and training of the departmental staff.
- Manage the Fixed Asset function and related personnel.
- Manage the Payroll function and related personnel.
- Manage the Accounting for product Inventory and related personnel - specifically entails not only the accounting activity (debits and credits) but also dealing with the operational aspects with internal and external personnel.
- Be the primary lead in the setup, implementation and maintenance of the accounting for the Direct-to-Consumer business (inventory related).
- Be the primary lead in the setup, implementation and maintenance of the accounting for the Warranty business (inventory related)
- Manage the Accounts Payable function and related personnel.
- Assists with the creation and complete documentation of new policies and procedures as required.
- Interface with and oversee the preparation of transactions with Canadian division, a 49% owned investee.
- Review and make improvements to internal transaction processes.
- Complete other special analyses and project assignments as assigned and/or as directed.

Requirements:
- Bachelor of Science Degree in Accounting and the designation of Certified Public Accountant (CPA). Master's Degree in Accounting or Finance will be a strong plus.
- Twelve to fourteen years of increasing responsibility in accounting, with a strong working knowledge of US GAAP interpretation - a must and considered a minimum requirement.
- Experience in a high volume, low dollar value transaction environment.
- Ability to manage day-to-day activities of the professional accounting staff and to be able to collaborate with peers, and other management as well as External and Internal Auditors.
- Minimum of 2 years direct SOX experience.
- Demonstrated ability to identify and define accounting problems, evaluate alternatives, implement effective solutions.
- Experience in being able to determine needs and resource assessments.
- Experience managing staff in payroll, fixed assets and inventory areas.
- Experience and advanced knowledge of various accounting systems such as Oracle and Microsoft Office, is required.
- Ability to be exacting, thorough and attentive to detail, while still meeting deadlines required.
- Strong written and verbal communications skills are paramount.
Base Salary – to $140,000 plus Bonus to 30%
